The Diary of a Country Priest

Copies of our summer book are now available for pick up or purchase at St. Patrick's Gift & Book store. There is also an accompanying study guide that you can download from this site or pick up in hard copy form in the store.

Study Guide: The Diary of a Country Priest

This is the very first novel that we have read in our group. It is set in a small village in the northern part of France and is the fictional diary of the local parish priest. This novel is considered on of the great classics of Catholic literature.

If you're interested, this novel was made into a movie in 1951. I was able to get a copy on our Netflix account, so it is easily available for viewing. The movie is in French with English subtitles. I can't recommend it too strongly--it's a pretty melodramatic and maudlin interpretation--but it was interesting to watch after having read the book.
